CHANGE YOUR STYLE
To the editor:
Re: Police find drugs, KLTW Aug. 9
I'm begging you, please change the way you report these drug busts.
Please include, not only the comments of those arrested, but those of
people like me who feel we are plain NUTS to continue with drug prohibition
when it has clearly failed on all fronts and is totally without logic in
any event. If we prohibit drugs because they are harmful, why don't we
prohibit alcohol and tobacco?
Our drug laws are nothing less than a cynical, manipulative campaign to
distract our attention from government screw-ups in other areas and to
provide a measure of vicarious pleasure to the majority by persecuting a
totally innocent minority.
What is your editorial position on our drug laws? Why not add a notation to
each of these stories summarizing it?
Alan and Eleanor Randell, Victoria, British Columbia
(We report police activity. That includes charging those in possession of
drugs.)
