MARIJUANA DRAWBACK
Ottawa -- According to Sam Mercer (letter -- Aug. 22), Dr. Raju Hajela's
claim that a single marijuana joint is as harmful as 10 cigarettes is "a
baseless anecdote."
In fact, this claim is based on sound scientific evidence. A peer-reviewed
article in the New England Journal of Medicine states that smoking three or
four joints a day damages the respiratory system as much as does smoking a
pack of cigarettes a day.
