A CANCER IS GROWING WITHIN THE COMMUNITY
In line with recent letters on corporate greed, apparently the
Killearn Lakes Homeowners Association is actually considering allowing
the development of multi-family housing on a 15-acre site near the
schools.
The developers will come in, complete construction and - after a
period of time - exit the investment with a tidy profit. Envision slum
lords, drug dealers, gangs and worse.
Sadly, these dwellings will alter the area's personality forever. Our
small-town, rural flavor will be lost. Those who will benefit
financially from this project will never outlive the negative impact
of this project. They will move on to another area, make more money
and move on again, never having to reside in or experience an area
infected with this strain of sprawl.
The area's quality of life will diminish. Suddenly, what was once
rural becomes almost inner-city-like. It's like watching a loved one
get a disease and slowly deteriorate until he or she dies. You watch
how the disease slowly eats away the body, mind and personality. The
damage is irreversible.
