INVITING ANTI-DRUG SUBMISSIONS

Drug Awareness Committee Is Having A Contest To Find An Identity

The Fort Saskatchewan Drug Awareness Committee is searching for an
identity and to help the search, the committee is having a contest for
logos, slogans and posters.

The winning bids will become a part of the committee's future campaign
of delivering a positive drug prevention message to the youth,
parents, residents, visitors and business community of Fort
Saskatchewan.

"The committee has been operating for about four years and we really
felt that we needed an identity," Wendy Serink, executive director of
the Boys and Girls Club and member of the Fort Saskatchewan Drug
Awareness Committee said. "So people recognize our logo, or our
slogan, that kind of speaks to what we believe in."

Other communities have done the same in the drug awareness arena.
Hinton's drug awareness slogan is "Naturally High."

A selection committee and City Council will which entries will be
chosen.

The committee is looking for a logo to represent the drug committee
and their mandate. A slogan should describe the Fort Saskatchewan
community. The poster will contain graphics for displays on drug use,
abuse, awareness and prevention.

The successful applicants will receive a prize and all logos, slogans
and poster materials will become property of the Fort Saskatchewan
Drug Awareness Committee.

Serink said the committee has been searching for material to use but
the search has come up short.

"We did attempt, with the post-secondary institutes -- like the
graphic arts departments and such -- to get something and we had no
success," Serink said. "Now we have approached the local schools to
see if any of the youths there have any ideas."

Serink added that the contest is open to anyone regardless of age.
