PROTECT INFORMANTS
In the Aug. 24 Mailbag, "Beating victim was drug informant," some glaring
points were made. The state Legislature and the attorney's office must
enact laws to safeguard the confidentiality of informants. For the state
attorney's office to allow an informant's identity to be revealed in
discovery documents is ludicrous.
The health and well-being of all informants are at stake. Why would any
citizen jeopardize him/herself in this manner? Even someone who is promised
a plea bargain for information should be protected.
