SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- A convicted felon is accused of shooting a
Missouri National Guard helicopter twice as it flew over his property in a
search for marijuana.

Tuesday's shooting disabled the helicopter, but the pilot landed safely and
no one was hurt.

No drugs were found at Jimmie Leroy Shriver's residence, but police allege
in court documents that they found two stolen firearms.

Shriver, 53, was charged in state court with six counts each of
first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He was charged in federal
court with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, U.S.
Attorney Todd P. Graves said.

Shriver was convicted in 1998 of possessing a controlled substance.
