POLICE OFFICER OFF DUTY AFTER DRUG-RELATED ARREST

A Toledo police officer was relieved of duty after he was arrested in his
home yesterday on two drug-related misdemeanors.

Investigators serving a search warrant in the home of Officer Dale Jackson
in the Bancroft Street-Westwood Avenue area, found a small amount of
marijuana and a few smoking pipes, police Chief Mike Navarre said.

Officer Jackson, 42, was arrested and booked into the Lucas County Jail on
one charge each of possession of drug paraphernalia and drug abuse. He was
released without bond pending arraignment today in Toledo Municipal Court.

The officer will face a departmental disciplinary hearing as soon as the
criminal charges are disposed of, Chief Navarre said. As the Toledo Police
Patrolman's Association contract allows, Officer Jackson, a 19-year
veteran, elected to remove himself from the payroll and declined to answer
questions from internal affairs investigators until the start of the
disciplinary process.

"These are very serious charges that could result in serious disciplinary
action, up to dismissal," Chief Navarre explained, adding that he knew of
no previous infractions on Officer Jackson's record.
