DRUG BUST CREDIT

I was rather surprised to see that ABC officers Robert Boswell and Ray
Shuler were given recognition for the Woodleaf drug bust. The two officers
are fine men, and had not gone around taking credit for doing anything
extraordinary. They had been among the first to suggest that the courthouse
security plan be financed by the windfall of federal dollars that would
come from the drug bust from their agency, and only then did the Sheriff's
Department join in the proposal.

I was also surprised to see the ABC officials recognized, because the
Sheriff's Department had been taking credit for the biggest heist in N.C.
history. Now that the feds have broken their silence, I suppose we know the
truth about which agency was responsible for ferreting out the drug
traffickers.

Congratulations, Mr. Shuler and Mr. Boswell, for a job well done. And darts
to current Sheriff George Wilhelm for his shameless claim of responsibility.
