MANY INMATES DON'T BELONG IN PRISON
Many inmates are taking up valuable space who should not be in prison. My
son was a drug addict who stole from unoccupied dwellings to support his
drug habit, and the only rehabilitation he was given was life without
parole in a maximum security prison.
There are many like him in our prison system who needed help, not
incarceration. House Bill 61 was signed into law Sept. 29, 2001, and has
not been acted upon to date. This needs to be done, as well as looking at
other alternatives for sentencing.
In fact, all cases need to be looked at to straighten out our Department of
Corrections.
