POLICE AND HELL'S ANGELS AGREE ON MARIJUANA

Dear editor:

Predictably, like all the other police, Chief Carl Herder is voicing
opposition to legalization of marijuana. Does anyone else find it peculiar
that police and the Hell's Angels are on the same side in this issue --
against legalization -- while the majority of Canadians lean toward reform?

Why would the police rather see money funneled to organized crime instead
of government coffers to offer better services? Whether that's their
intention or not, that's what happens when we keep drugs illegal.

The Senate has recommended a way to change this volatile landscape, and if
we donOt develop a drug policy aimed at legalization, we will see a
continued decrease in government services to subsidize policing costs and
the justice system and a continued growth in organized crime. Is that what
we want?

It's easy to see why only the misguided and those who have a vested
interest support the current status quo of prohibition or it's side-kick,
decriminalization, which leaves the black market intact.
