Internet Drug Rings
(AP) - In a two-day sweep involving 84 cities, the authorities said they
had broken up four Internet drug-trafficking rings, made more than 100
arrests and seized enough chemicals for 25 million doses of the "date rape"
drug GHB and similar substances. Officials at the Drug Enforcement Agency
said federal, state and local police began the investigation two years ago,
focusing on Internet drug rings in Buffalo; Detroit; Mobile, Ala.; San
Diego; Sparta, Tenn.; St. Louis; and Quebec. Marketing dangerous drugs on
the Web "should not, and will not, be as simple as point-and-click," said
Asa Hutchinson, the agency's director.
