ALTA. GRANDPA CONVICTED OF GROWING POT HAS CURFEW EXCEPT WHEN WITH GRANDKIDS

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. (CP) - A grandfather guilty of growing pot in his
backyard will have to obey a curfew, unless he's babysitting his
grandchildren. Louis Frank Lendrum, 74, was handed an 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
curfew in court Thursday after pleading guilty to a charge of cultivating
marijuana.

The curfew, and babysitting exception, were part of an eight-month
conditional sentence which allows him to stay in the community rather than
go to jail.

Lendrum was also handed a 10-year firearm prohibition and must perform 20
hours of community service.

The senior was charged in August after Lethbridge police raided his home
and discovered 36 marijuana plants growing in the yard.

Police said there was no sophisticated equipment involved in the operation,
and it did not appear the drugs were being grown to sell.
