STUDENTS CHARGED WITH DEALING IN HEROIN

Five high-school students were among 14 people arrested by Toronto Police
yesterday and charged with dealing heroin around three schools in the area
of Keele Street and Wilson Avenue.

"This is a real shock. Heroin is usually seen as a drug of older people,"
and is highly addictive, said Staff-Inspector Neale Tweedy of the drug squad.

Two of the students attended Grade 12 at Downsview Secondary School and a
third had been recently expelled. Two others attended Monsignor Fraser
Catholic School and Yorkdale Secondary School. Bruce Cameron, co-ordinating
principal of student services said the Toronto District School Board will
work with students and parents to reinforce existing programs on the
dangers of drug abuse.
