DRUG-CHARGE COPS 'BUSTED' OUT CRYING
September 21, 2002 -- Cops nabbed as part of a Suffolk County drug ring
cried like babies when they were busted, police sources said yesterday.
Suffolk County cop Thomas Foley, 30 - who had a bit part in a 1991
independent flick fittingly called "Wannabes" - also tried to con an
undercover officer into giving him and his father money to finance a film
"that they were never going to make," police said.
The probe began when Foley's colleagues anonymously called their Internal
Affairs hot line to report that he was snorting cocaine, said Suffolk
Police Commissioner John Gallagher.
The tips led to a months-long undercover probe by NYPD Internal Affairs
that resulted in the arrests earlier this week of Foley, three other
officers and 10 civilian cohorts.
The suspects - who boasted pumped-up muscles, "big haired" young
girlfriends and all-night partying - have been charged with dealing cocaine
and steroids.
The other drug-bust lawmen are NYPD Sgt. Robert Grettler, 34; Foley's
brother James, 25, a state trooper; and trooper Michael Christie.
When they were nabbed, each "cried like a baby," a source said. "They
wouldn't stop crying."
