OFF THE BENCH

You can add Superior Court Judge Orlando Hudson to the growing list of
incompetents in the city of Durham. I'm sure the vast majority of citizens
are outraged at his latest decision regarding State Trooper Clinton J.
Carroll's arrest of a Hispanic drunk driver ("Judge rules trooper engaged
in profiling," Sept. 20).

Judge Hudson should either resign or be kicked off the bench. He is typical
of the problem with our justice system. He is an embarrassment to the
judicial system and just more fodder for the old
guess-what-happened-in-Durham jokes. He is also the judge who overturned
many drug arrests from the inhabitant-requested drug crackdown at the Cheek
Road Apartments. The Hispanic driver was given a ticket for being drunk,
which he was. Trooper Carroll may have saved some innocent person's life.

As for Public Defender Bob Brown, he gets paid for getting guilty people
set free to prey upon the innocent. He reminds me of an old joke: Do you
know what's black and brown and looks good on a lawyer? Answer: A Doberman
pinscher.
