DRUG WAR'S BOTTOM LINE
Regarding "Pot Effort Grows Slowly" [Page 1, Sept. 23]:
Is it any wonder that the U.S. drug czar - as director of the longest,
costliest and most ineffective war in American history - would be hardening
his opposition to the repeal of pot prohibition? After all, his job depends
on persecuting and imprisoning fellow citizens for choosing marijuana over
alcohol or tobacco. Reefer madness is still the official policy of the U.S.
government.
Because of the drug war, Connecticut has developed a new export industry -
sending prisoners to out-of-state penitentiaries.
If the drug war were really about protecting the health of the nation,
shouldn't we be imprisoning fat people and alcoholics, too?
