FORMER POT ADDICT'S LETTER AN EYE-OPENER

THE EDITOR:

Thank you, Karen Kim McGregor, for your letter to the editor ['Addict says
common sense should prevail in pot debate,' Times Letters, Sept. 27]. You
will probably never know how many individuals you have educated and helped
by your letter. Information from someone who has been there must be
listened to and acted on. I am sure that your courage will help caring
parents, grandparents and our community to make every effort in ensuring
that our children and youth are protected from harmful, addictive drugs,
including the dangerous and illegal drug marijuana. Your letter should
encourage addicts that there is a possibility of turning their lives around
and return to being a contributing member of our society. Many teens
believe (in error) that marijuana is just a plant or not as bad as heroin
or cocaine. Please think again. We must all take heed and protect our
children from the possibility of easier access to this harmful drug.
