NEIGHBOURS WANTED FAMILY EVICTED
Neighbours of a couple allegedly operating a drug den out of an
apartment where their children lived, say they've tried numerous times
to get the family evicted.
Ever since the couple, first brought to the attention of Calgarians
four years ago when their eight-year-old son was caught dealing crack
downtown, moved into the building, tenants have noticed an increase in
damage and suspicious activity, said long-time resident Jath Chan.
"No people in this building want someone living here who is dealing
with drugs," said Chan, who has lived in the building for 17 years.
Chan, who lives below the family, said he knew the children, ages 12,
10 and eight, had been returned to their parents because he could hear
them playing, but he assumed any drug activity had stopped.
"I think the government should take care of the children and do their
best they can for the children," he said.
On Tuesday, police burst into the apartment and discovered
methamphetamine, crack, marijuana and evidence of crack
manufacturing.
A 50-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman were arrested and charged
with numerous offences and their children, who were in the apartment
at the time of the raid, were taken by Alberta Children's Services
officials.
In 2002, the children were also removed from the home after an
eight-year-old boy, now 12, was caught by police dealing crack downtown.
A tenant who had been living with the family was charged with
supplying the youngster with the illegal drugs.
