MOYES GETS LIFE, PLEADS GUILTY TO 7 MURDERS

The accused killer at the Harris Road farm in 1996 has pleaded guilty to 7
charges of first-degree murder.

In a surprise twist in Chilliwack Supreme court Thursday, Moyes accepted
the guilty pleas for the deaths of former Abbotsford residents Sonto
Graves, Raymond Graves, Daryl Klassen, Teresa Klassen and David Sangha, who
were all killed execution-style in a midnight ambush at the Graves'
farmhouse near the intersection of Harris and Gladwin roads Sept. 11, 1996.

He also pleaded guilty to the 1995 murders of Eugene and Michelle Uyeyama
in Burnaby.

"He was in court today [and] he pleaded guilty to 7 counts of first-degree
murder," Geoffrey Gaul of provincial Crown counsel said late Thursday. "He
was sentenced to life in prison with no eligibility of parole for 25 years
- - the mandatory first-degree murder sentence." First-degree murder pleas
are uncommon in B.C.

"It was clear from pretty much the day he retained me that that's what he
wanted to do," defence lawyer Peter Benning said. "It was what he wanted to
do."

The murders that Moyes has pleaded guilty to were all tied into the
Colombian cocaine trade. Co-accused in the Harris Road murders is Mark
Damion Therrien who is scheduled to appear in Abbotsford provincial court
Oct. 18.
