PROHIBITION STEALS POLICE TIME
Dear Sir:
So Mr Buors, you want your natural rights to all drugs restored. But I want
my life protected by the RCMP highway patrols who create safer highways.
Tragedies, such as what happened to Bill Giesbrecht's niece, are unfortunate
but they are made even more so by the fact that they are so easily
preventable.
All it would take is time. Imagine how his life would be different had there
simply been a police officer around.
Prohibition steals millions of man-hours from local, state, and federal
agencies. Any time Mr Giesbrecht wants to know why no one was protecting his
family that day, he can take comfort in the fact that the police were busy
'protecting' him from a plant.
Breathalyzer tests do not prevent accidents. Police do. There is no
breathalyzer test required before a motor vehicle will operate. There is not
an impairment test waiting at the end of every driveway. Alcohol stops begin
the same way any other traffic stop would, with the police officer noticing
a problem.
Any difficulties arising from that point are moot. The officer has already
been alerted to dangerous driving, it is simply now a matter of prosecuting
the cause.
While a simple breath test may not be possible, blood tests are very
reliable at determining the THC content in a person's system.
