$60,000 SEIZED AFTER DRIVER WAFFLES

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. - Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers seized $60,000 after
pulling over a Colorado man who allegedly gave conflicting stories about
how he got the money.

Christian Carson, 24, of Lakewood was not charged. He was given a property
receipt and released.

Trooper Scott Minyard stopped Carson on Oct. 3 about 10 miles east of Rock
Springs on Interstate 80. In his report, Minyard said he estimated that
Carson had been driving 82 mph.

Carson was in a 2002 Dodge Neon rental car. Minyard said Carson gave him a
Dollar Rent-A-Car agreement for Sept. 27-28.

Carson explained he had a friend in the rental car business who let him
keep cars several days while charging him for just one day.

When asked if he had more than $10,000 cash, weapons, drugs or child
pornography in the car, Carson said he did not, according to the report.

Minyard asked if he could search the car. Carson consented, but when
Minyard asked to search the trunk, Carson asked why that was necessary if
Minyard had found nothing incriminating so far.

Carson consented to have the trunk searched after the trooper told him a
drug dog was on the way and would search the car.

In the trunk, Minyard allegedly found a plastic food-saver bag with about
$60,000 cash in it. Carson said he was going to use the money for gambling
in Las Vegas but allegedly told another trooper later that he had won the
money while gambling in Las Vegas.
