FIGHTING TERRORISM
Ottawa -- Re Colombians Flee Campaign Of Terror (Oct. 10): The Globe
repeats the cliche that the true violators of human rights in Colombia are
the self-defence groups (paramilitaries) and that they are backed by the
government armed forces in a war against the guerrillas.
Self-defence groups and guerrillas are terrorists, declared as such by
Canadian, American and European governments. They all are drug traffickers.
They are engaged in a territorial war for the control of crops,
laboratories and routes. The population is caught in the middle, and my
government is battling these groups to protect our people.
We are fighting terrorists as hard as we can, it does not matter how they
label themselves.

Colombian Ambassador to Canada
