RESERVE 'MARTYR' FOR OTHERS
This is in regard to the Oct. 8 article "Pair were martyrs in effort to
legalize pot, their children believe."
The Schilling family is in mourning after the death of their parents Dennis
and Denise. They hung themselves in a Madison hotel after they were
convicted of possession of marijuana. The Schillings believed marijuana
should be legalized in Wisconsin for health purposes. They decided to grow
not only marijuana, but mushrooms and other forms of drug paraphernalia in
their Big Bend home. How do mushrooms cure back pains?
If Denise Schilling were only using drugs for curing back pains, wouldn't
moving to California - where prescription marijuana is legal - be a better
alternative to death?
At the funeral, the Schilling children said their parents were martyrs in
the effort to legalize pot. Many people become martyrs each day by standing
up for a faith or belief. It angers me to hear "martyr" used in regard to
the Schillings. If I go on a hunger strike against abortion, and die in the
process, do not call me a martyr, call me a fool.
