CALENDAR HELPS KIDS FIGHT DRUGS
Every Grade 6 student in the Peel District School Board and Dufferin-Peel
Catholic District School Board will receive a school year calendar this
week aimed at preventing drug use among children.
A collaborative effort of The Mississauga News, Peel Regional Police, Peel
Partners for a Drug-Free Community and the two school boards, the calendar
is packed with helpful tips for parents and students on how to avoid and
detect drug use.
A list of support agencies and their telephone numbers also is included in
the calendar.
Illicit drug use is wide-spread among adolescents aged 14 to 19. In fact,
according to 2001 statistics supplied by the Centre for Addiction and
Mental Health, more than a third of students in that age range has tried or
currently is using drugs.
