COUNTY EMPLOYEES MAY UNDERGO DRUG TESTING

Drug testing for all Sumter County employee's was recommended by Ronald
True of Meadowbrook Worker Compensation Insurance to the county commissioners.

"Does that include elected officials?"asked commissioner Ronnie Beard.
"Yes, especially you," answered True at the Commission meeting Tuesday Oct. 15.

True was presenting a yearly safety review to the commission. He also
recommended renovations for the old hospital for sheriff's office. He cited
potential problems with mold and mildew that would be hazardous for employees.

"The walls in the old hospital have black mold three feet from the floor
that has been there for five years or more. They are finding mold and
mildew to be very harmful and may pass laws in the future requiring that it
be eliminated,"said True.

True also pointed out that the county has no program developed for staffing
needs of the new jail. "I recommend you preform a staffing analysis. You
can consult the architect for that information,"said True. Courthouse
security was another concern. "We are seeing on a more regular basis
incidents on or around courthouses. Some violent, some not. You may want to
review security personnel and procedures," said True.
