MARYLAND: AID FOR BALTIMORE IN FIGHTING DRUG VIOLENCE
Mayor Martin O'Malley of Baltimore said the state had agreed to provide 150
troopers to patrol city thoroughfares, hire an additional 75 parole
officers and provide additional jail space to help the city fight
drug-related violence. Mr. O'Malley's announcement came after meetings with
clergy members and state officials about the deaths of Angela Dawson, 36,
and her five children, who were killed early Wednesday in retaliation, the
authorities said, for her efforts to confront drug dealers.
