ESS PARENT ADVISORY COUNCIL TO HOST DRUG USE INFORMATION MEETING
With the acclamation of Mary Ann Austman as Vice-Chair at the last meeting,
the executive positions for the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) at Edward
Schreyer School have been filled.
Ed Greenburgh is Past-Chair, Donelda Long is secretary, and Jeff Kilmartin
is now the Chair.
There are still openings for people interested in being voting members of
the Council, and three of these may be community members with no children
in the school. If you are interested please let Jeff Kilmartin (268-3305)
know, and be prepared to come to the next PAC meeting.
The mandate for this year's Council is a straightforward one of seeking to
make a good school even better. We believe we have quality staff, good
teachers and great students at Edward Schreyer, and there is lots of
evidence of that both in and outside of the school.
As with any organization of people, though, there are bound to be problems
and part of our task is to enhance the strengths of the school and to seek
solutions for real and potential weaknesses.
In an upcoming report we hope to have news of some of the research which is
now being carried out by PAC sub-committees regarding possible changes in
the school.
There are a couple of dates to mark on the calendar for the month of
November. The first is the next PAC meeting which will be on Monday,
November 18, at 7 pm in the ESS Staff lounge.
The second is a Parent Information Meeting on Drug Use. This will be held
on Thursday, November 21 at 7 pm in the ESS Library. A member of the RCMP
will be there to speak about the signs of drug use, how to spot them, and
to show - using a drug kit - what drugs actually look and smell like. As
well, a member from the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba will be on hand
to help parents learn how to talk to their children about drugs.
