POLICE BOARD TO APPEAL JURY AWARD IN LAWSUIT STEMMING FROM DRUG RAID
Police To Appeal
The Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners decided Tuesday to appeal the
loss of a federal lawsuit in which a man wounded by police was awarded $2
million.
Board members made the decision in a closed session at their monthly
meeting. The jury's verdict was announced Thursday.
The case centered on a 1998 drug raid by police at the home of a
52-year-old trailer mechanic in the 600 block of West 101st Street. Police
received a tip that there was a methamphetamine lab at the house but found
no meth. David Doran approached police with a gun in his hand and was shot.
He recovered and sued the department. Jurors faulted police officials for
failing to properly train and supervise officers.
