PEOPLE OVER-REACTING TO DOG INCIDENT

Regarding the letters to the editor about the dog being shot in botched
drug raid, I say, come on, people, get over it.

This was an accident, plain and simple. The police didn't mean to raid the
wrong apartment and they didn't mean to shoot the dog. They didn't know the
character of the dog.

All they knew was this was a drug raid with the possibility there were
weapons inside, which is why they break into a place with guns drawn and
don't knock on the front door and ask to be let in.

There are too many unknowns in such situations. The officer in question
will have to answer to his bosses about the shooting.

As for the apology and possible civil action, the police should and will
make a formal apology to Marcie Carroll and the London Police Association
can offer to purchase a new dog from the pound or pay for a new puppy from
a good breeder.

As for the rest of the public, try walking in a police officer's shoes for
a day or two.
