GUARD INDICTED IN HEROIN CASE
A guard at the maximum-security federal prison in Florence has been indicted
on charges of trying to sell heroin to an inmate.
Felix Ira Pina, 31, of Canon City tried to sell drugs to an inmate at the
penitentiary on Sept. 11 and Oct. 9, according to the indictment released
Monday.
The indictment, handed up Oct. 23, also accuses Pina of bringing heroin into
the prison between those dates.
Pina was indicted on charges of bribery, attempted introduction of heroin in
prison, and possession with intent to distribute heroin.
Convictions on all three charges would carry a maximum penalty of 55 years
in prison and $1.5 million in fines.
