ALCOHOL THE MOST DESTRUCTIVE DRUG

A recent article about one sailor pushing another out a sixth-floor window
in New York and then going to sleep missed a very important point. Alcohol
was involved. The story didn't mention that.

If they had been smoking marijuana, that would have been in the headline,
except for the fact that if they were smoking marijuana and not under the
influence of alcohol, it likely wouldn't have happened.

Almost every child that has tried marijuana has already tried alcohol
first. That would make alcohol the gateway to other drugs. Most times that
someone tries marijuana for the first time they are already high on
alcohol. Their inhibitions are lowered by drinking and that's when things
happen.

Newspapers have a moral obligation to inform their readers that such loss
of life was after a night of drinking. Alcohol is the most destructive drug
out there and kids deserve to know that. Keep them from drinking alcohol
and you will keep them from smoking marijuana.
