SAFE INJECTION SITES NOT A REAL SOLUTION
Since I haven't heard of any real solutions to the problem of drug
addiction, I hope to open up a discussion on the subject by "thinking
outside the box".
Methadone clinics and free injection sites only serve to perpetuate the
problem. Since I used to live in Vancouver in the early '70s, I have seen
this problem escalate. My solution, in a nutshell, is to remove the addict
from the "candy store", i.e. the downtown core, and place them in a
facility as far away from the city as possible, preferably in a natural
setting, and treat them accordingly. Only then will society begin to really
help these people.
I don't mean to simplify this problem with one paragraph, but I feel it is
a solution that warrants a worthwhile look by both governments. The
businesses and tourists deserve the beauty of our city, not the ugliness of
a city that refuses to deal with the problem.
