PEOPLE SAY 'NO' TO DRUGS
THE one time parliamentary candidate for the Legalise Cannabis Alliance in
Workington says the police were heavy-handed in the way they broke into
houses in Whitehaven and arrested two men for alleged possession of the
drug. But the police rightly point out that cannabis is still an illegal
drug. The raids in Mirehouse and Woodhouse were more of a show of intention
than anything else, to alert those involved in drugs that there is no
easing up on enforcement, despite the Government getting closer to
downgrading cannabis to a class C drug.
We support the police on behalf of all the law-abiding citizens who live on
these estates and who strive to keep it a safe place for their families. It
is significant that the latest arrests were as a result of information from
the public.
Shopping anyone involved in drugs in this way is one of the most potent
weapons the public have.
The people in Whitehaven have clearly stood up and been counted. That also
sends out a defiant message to those involved in whatever capacity in
drugs. And that is that decent people refuse to have their environment
tainted by drugs.
