PUTNAM INVESTIGATOR FACING DRUG ACCUSATIONS

EATONTON - A Putnam County sheriff's investigator was arrested Tuesday on
charges that he was obtaining prescriptions for controlled substances from
more than one doctor.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said he personally arrested Lee Wilson
and then transported him to Greene County, where the arrest warrant
originated. Sills also fired Wilson.

Wilson was charged in an incident that occurred in Greene County on Sept.
12, according to a written statement released by Sills. Wilson faces one
count of acquisition of controlled substances by omission to practitioner -
a charge commonly referred to as "double doctoring." Sills said Wilson was
obtaining pain medication.

Wilson's charge stems from an investigation by the Georgia Drugs and
Narcotics Agency, the inspection and enforcement agency of the State Board
of Pharmacy. Wilson was released on $5,000 bond.

Wilson was arrested by the Georgia State Patrol on May 24 on charges of
driving under the influence. Sills then suspended Wilson without pay for
two weeks and demoted him from lieutenant to sergeant.
