CANNABIS PROHIBITION NOT THE ANSWER

Dear Editor:

I strongly agree with the article entitled Drug awareness a 'parental
issue' (Airdrie Echo, Oct. 30). The original prohibition on a national
scale was worse than the booze prohibition and the sequel, now, on an
international scale, is worse.

Caging humans for using cannabis (marijuana) is so mean-spirited, repulsive
and sinful that it should be asked if cannabis prohibitionists really even
comprehend that they're admitting a desire to cage humans for using a plant.

It defies integrity and rationality to cage humans for using cannabis and
to cage sick citizens using cannabis for relief of pain is vile, morbid and
spiteful for a civilization in the year 2002. Police, defunct of this
elementary truth, compromise their trust in citizens when supporting the
policy of caging humans for using a plant. At the very minimum, North
America must relegalize cannabis, especially when you consider the worst
side effects of cannabis are police-inflicted.

Biblically, medically and recreationally, many citizens use cannabis
responsibly and are tired of various forms of government discrimination and
deceit directed toward them. Police should not be part of that deceit.
