THREE PILLARS MISSING

Vancouver -- Margaret Wente lambastes safe injection sites in Vancouver
without once mentioning the "four-pillar strategy" (A Quick Fix That Won't
Work -- Nov. 19). Even I, who barely followed the recent Vancouver civic
election, received an earful about this strategy, which aims to solve
Vancouver's drug problem.

The remaining three pillars are prevention, treatment, and enforcement. Ms.
Wente argues that safe injection sites aren't going to solve the problem by
themselves without once mentioning that the new mayor is committed to
improving these other areas as well. She's arguing her point in a vacuum.
