A WEAK ARGUMENT

It appears that proponents of marijuana are all working from the same
playbook. A recent letter, "Laws are hypocritical," included the following,
"I submit there are more dangers associated with alcohol than with
marijuana."

For sake of argument, let's assume the writer is correct. Note his words are
"more dangers." Tellingly, he doesn't say there are no dangers associated
with marijuana; rather, the risk is greater with alcohol. Therefore, since
the risk is less, we can all go out and smoke pot. Using his rationale, we
can all jump off three-story buildings since the risk is less than jumping
off four-story buildings.

Advancing an argument on the basis of the lesser of two evils has always
been rather weak.
