HARM REDUCTION A CRIME
To the editor:
The much-touted Four Pillars approach to dealing with drug addiction and
drug addicts includes: treatment, prevention, law enforcement and something
called harm reduction.
These all seem to make a good deal of sense. Unless, of course, "harm
reduction" includes aiding and abetting an illegal activity-namely
providing a place for the use of controlled substances.
Well, that is exactly what the three main contenders for mayor vowed to do.
If, at my own expense, I did what was proposed to do with taxpayers money,
I would be arrested, tried and convicted of a criminal offense, and
imprisoned for up to five years. Isn't it strange that when you are
empowered to levy taxes, it's deemed by some to legitimize any kind of conduct?
