NO DRUG PLAN EXPANSION: FROESE

News reports to the contrary, Garden Valley School Division is not
considering extending a random drug testing plan to include all
students involved in extra curricular activities.

Division chair Hilda Froese says news reports earlier in the week
were based on comments taken out of context and that the division is
not planning to make changes and has not even discussed amendments of
that nature to its proposed plan. The division is working on a plan
that will see student athletes subject to random drug tests.

Froese said the plan, which has been approved in principle, is still
being studied locally and is also under review by the provincial
Ombudsman's office.
