RRHS STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN DRUG AWARENESS WEEK activities

Last week, RRHS held their annual Drug Awareness Week. During this week,
the entire school acknowledges what happens when you drink and drive.

On Tuesday the 19th, the student council held an all-you-can-eat pancake
breakfast. This was held to kick off Drug Awareness Week. Students and
teachers flocked to room two where this breakfast was being held. Everyone
had a very filling meal for the price of one dollar.

On Wednesday the 20th, the P.A. system played a car crash sound every
twenty minutes. This signified that someone died right at that moment from
drinking and driving. A Grim Reaper walked around the school on this day
and picked a person from a class to die every time a car crash sounded. The
person who "died" went up to room two and got their faces painted white.
They were not allowed to talk for the rest of the day. This process started
at nine in the morning and went until three in the afternoon. A total of 18
people "died" in this school day.

Thursday and Friday offered the fatal vision goggles. These goggles distort
images so that a person cannot see normally. Many students put on the
goggles and tried to walk properly, but many couldn't. By wearing the
glasses, students got the feeling of how out of control they become when
drinking.

Also on these two days, people were able to see many posters and booklets
about drugs. These were offered in room two with the goggles.

Student council president, Trevor Bonot stated, "hopefully students had fun
while learning during this week. Everyone should learn about drug and
alcohol abuse."
