A DAGGER IN THE BACK
I did not know there were so many saints in the Traverse City Area bar
association. What percentage of the members between the ages of 35 and 55
have smoked dope? Far more than will probably admit it. Sure, Judge Gilbert
did a dumb thing by taking a few hits on a joint at the Stones' concert.
On the other hand, so what, he was at a Stones' concert; what do you think
goes on at a Stones' concert?
Has anyone investigated how many parking tickets he has had since he took
the bench? The real issue is, has the guy done a good job on the bench in
the last couple of years?
If so, cut him some slack and let him come back and prove himself.
Instead of using this as an opportunity to condemn a local jurist, the
local bar should do something productive by pointing out the hypocrisy of
our marijuana laws. He could have drunk a 12-pack at the concert without
any repercussions, but take a hit and your old friends stick the dagger in
your back while you're off in rehab; what a group.
