OUR OIL ADDICTION

The current administration propagated the message that drug users helped
fund terrorists from the Middle East whenever they purchased drugs. That
may be true and most people didn't disagree with the message because drug
use is a bad thing. Connecting what happened on Sept. 11 with drug use has
a way to promote the war on drugs.

If the current administration were really concerned about sending a message
addressing the source of funding for terrorists from the Middle East, a
more appropriate one would have been that America's oil lust provides more
funds for the terrorists from the Middle East than anything.

That message is hard to swallow for most Americans. Most law-abiding
Americans want to do what they want when they want without thinking about
the consequences of their actions. The truth hurts sometimes. Hurt as it
may, the truth is oil funds the terrorists much more than drugs. Not only
does the oil fund them, the constant thirst requires meddling in Middle
Eastern affairs causing agitation and resentment.

Now is the time to move away from oil and find more intelligent environment
friendly renewable energy sources.
