BUBBLE ZONES ALREADY EXIST: IN JAIL

To the editor:

Re: "Parents want 'bubble zones' to keep criminals away from kids," Dec. 1.

It is with great annoyance I read articles such as this. For the past 40
years, successive governments have "stolen" taxes which should have gone
into policing, education and medical coverage.

Politicians have stumped on issues like child poverty, got elected, then
did nothing to correct the problem.

Policemen walked the beat in the '60s. Crime was very well controlled.
There were no home invasions, no drive-by shootings, and you could send
your children to school by themselves.

Now you drive kids to school. What changed?

Every time a politician comes up with a good idea to stop poverty and,
provide affordable housing, you know it won't be where they live or with
their money.

We do have bubble zones for criminals. They are called jails.

We once put criminals in a place with bars; now we live in houses with bars
and the criminals are running loose.

I feel very sorry for the Dennis St. Aubins of the world.

They feel that society cares-a society which is now considering safe
injection sites. Think how well the needle program has worked. AIDS and
hepatitis are rampant on the Downtown Eastside.

Until we get courts that are on the side of victims, judges who remind
criminals that they must pay for crime, this situation will continue.
