Re: "Stop rewarding failure," Nov. 24 editorial.
Thank you for publicly supporting Sen. Ken Gordon's proposal on reduced
sentencing for drug offenders. Another area of vast waste of taxpayer money
is the number of parolees returned to prison for technical violations. As
such, they do not earn good time in prison and merely sit there waiting for
their day-to-day time to end. Kept on parole, they are required to attend
classes, support meetings, community service, etc.
By kicking out non-violent drug offenders and parole violators, we could
free up as much or more money than what Gov. Bill Owens is asking for the
Department of Corrections.
