ADDICTION IS A PERSONAL CHOICE

Regarding the Dec. 7 commentary, "Freeing a crack mom," I was appalled that
the author would state that "McKnight did not use drugs out of choice, but
because she was addicted."

Becoming addicted to anything is a choice. Why can't newspapers support
personal responsibility for your own behavior? The coddling needs to stop.
Perhaps jail is not the best punishment but she certainly has to be held
responsible for choosing crack, addiction and the outcomes of use.
