NEEDLE EXCHANGE ADDS TO PROBLEMS
Re: "Needle exchange saves lives," May 3.
The very existence of a free supply of needles is an enabler, not a deterrent.
I reject the argument that providing addicts with free needles
reduces AIDS and saves health-care costs. I expect an increasing
population of injection drug-users leads to more incidents of needle-sharing.
When policy makers stop tolerating and enabling drug use, destructive
behaviour will decline.
