COMMON SENSE WILL PREVAIL

SMOKING POT does not lead directly to a higher crime rate as Robb Cable
suggests (Letters, Dec. 26). Closed-minded and outdated attitudes that
prohibit the use of something that should never have been made illegal in
the first place create the crime. Cable suggests that smoking pot is
immoral and asks when common sense will prevail. Frankly, I don't see
anything morally wrong with somebody doing something that does not
interfere with anybody else's rights, and would suggest to Cable that
common sense will prevail when governments and society share that view and
legalize marijuana outright. Lastly, he shouldn't assume that the majority
of adult Canadians don't support decriminalization or legalization of
marijuana. After all, if everyone answered honestly you might find more
people out there who have tried, used or are using pot than people who
aren't and never have.
