CRACKDOWN WILL CONTINUE

POLICE have secured funding for for a further three months of extra
activity on a Wellingborough estate, after successful operations cut
burglary and targeted drug dealers.

Police on the Hemmingwell estate will be able to keep their temporary
police house, opened in November in Fulmar Lane, until the end of
March, thanks to extra funding from Wellingborough Council's
community safety budget.

Since September, the community beat officers have had support from an
extra four police officers and burglaries have been cut from about 12
a month to one or two. There has also been a crackdown on suspected
drug dealers, with several arrests.

Insp Philip Osborne, responsible for the estate, said: I have been
extremely pleased with the progress of PC Pete Wright and his team,
and all the additional support.

"Wellingborough Council has been able to supply us with funding from
the community safety budget.

PC Wright said: The drug operations have taken up a lot of our time
and it has been a six-month process getting evidence on
individuals.

"I would like to extend my thanks to the residents for all the
information they supplied."

Acting chairman of the Hemmingwell Residents Association Cathy
Mulholland said: "We would like to thank the police for all their
work and hope it continues."

Cllr Maurice Brockman, who represents the Hemmingwell ward on
Wellingborough Council, said: "Everyone on the estate is very
pleased with the police's attitude and I am pleased to see the
continuance of the police sub-station."
