CORRECTIONAL OFFICER HELD ON DRUG CHARGES
A Suffolk County correctional officer was ordered held on $25,000 cash bail
yesterday at his arraignment on drug trafficking charges in Boston
Municipal Court, according to Attorney General Thomas F. Reilly's office.
Nelson Perez, 25, of North Attleborough, a correctional officer at Nashua
Street Jail in Boston, was arrested Wednesday night after investigators
said they found 30 grams of cocaine, 1 ounce of marijuana, 19 OxyContin
pills, and approximately $1,300 in cash inside his car. Perez pleaded not
guilty to charges of drug trafficking and possession with intent to
distribute. Perez, as a correctional officer since 2001, was placed on
administrative leave pending an internal hearing, according to the Suffolk
sheriff's department.
