WHY NOT PUT DRUG ADDICTS ON FASTCATS?

Rather than auction off our ill-fated fast ferries for a song, why not put
them to good (stationary) use. Immobilize them, one each in the harbours of
Vancouver, Victoria, and Nanaimo as safe injection sites.

Moreover, they could easily be modified and turned into floating hotels for
street people and drug addicts, each with a fully equipped medical centre,
and cafeteria. Let the residents become their own "ship's company," swab and
clean the decks, and deal with the drugged out or "drunken sailor" and, if
necessary, throw them in their own brig rather than having to bother the
police.

It just might go a long way toward providing a partial solution to having to
deal with the "Woodward's" crowd in Vancouver, or the Johnson Street parkade
group here in Victoria, not to mention centralizing the problem on board
their own ship and moving them off our streets!

Don Burgess,

Victoria.
